One thing that’s great about living in the U.S. is that our melting pot culture allows us to celebrate all the most fun holidays from everyone else’s culture. Cinco de Mayo. St. Patrick’s Day. Oktoberfest.
Are you seeing a pattern here? If the holiday involves alcohol and partying, we’re down for it!
If you missed last weekend’s Oktoberfest merriment, don’t worry, the revelry continues for two more weeks.
Where can you go this weekend and next to partake in the fun and have your beer delivered by a dude in lederhosen or a Fraulein in a dirndl and fake braids?
- District Oktoberfest — Don’t miss this popular daylong drinking celebration Saturday in Dupont Circle. Buy tickets on Eventbrite and claim them between noon and 3 at Buffalo Billiards. You get a beer when you check in and select beers and shots for $4 each at participating bars through 9 p.m.
- Wunder Garten — This beer garden and event space is celebrating Oktoberfest all weekend long, Sept. 28-30, with traditional German music and food, Bavarian Olympics and beer, beer, beer. On Sunday, dogs are invited to attend as well and participate in a dog costume contest and talent show. (All dogs welcome, not just dachshunds and German shepherds.)
- Sauf Haus — Oktoberfest kicks off here tomorrow, Oct. 3, featuring 14 special beers and “a blind taste test with prizes and swag.” Dress in traditional German clothing on Saturday, Oct. 6, and get the chance to win a prize.
- Café Berlin — This elegant Capitol Hill restaurant is celebrating Oktoberfest in a slightly more proper fashion, with a special menu featured through Oct. 21 including wiener schnitzel, spätzle, bratwurst and strudel. At 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, Café Berlin is hosting a pig roast, complete with traditional sides and beer. Stop by at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, to hear traditional German music under the tent in the biergarten.
It’s likely your local bar or restaurant will also feature some Oktoberfest specials, but these just might include discounts on beer and two-for-one hot dogs, so hit an authentic party.
